Workday & lunch on September 12

Thanks to last month's volunteers: Pat Compton, Silvia Gederberg, Millie Morgan, Nancy Taylor, Sandy Wilson.  Check out Photos of the GCMN-PPP workday from July to September at https://picasaweb.google.com/GCMN.PHOTOS/2013GCMNPPPPhotos

Many thanks to Silvia Gederberg who came several times a week between then and now to check that the water is flowing and who also came to inventory plants in the heat this summer.  We planted about 100 plants last Saturday and many, many had her inventory tag on them!

Please come and say good-bye to Sandy Wilson, who will be moving back to Colorado soon.  This is Sandy's last PPP workday  :(   We will miss him, but wish him well in Colorado.

We will be weeding and pulling out the rest of the plants that died in August in preparation for a large planting day on November 2.  Hermann Park Conservancy have many volunteers wanting to work that day.  Help needed for people to come and supervise the new volunteers on November 2!

This month
We will be weeding, cutting out dead leaves on live plants, and pulling out the rest of the plants that died in August in preparation for a large planting day on November 2. Hermann Park Conservancy has many volunteers wanting to work that day. Help is needed for TMNs and other experienced people to come and supervise the new volunteers on November 2!

Bring weeding tool, gloves, trowel, pruners, shovel, and money for lunch (optional). If you do not have gardening tools, they will be provided. The pavilion provides a roof overhead but is not indoors, so please dress accordingly.

No experience necessary; all persons interested in propagating native plants and planting in the Project Blazing Star area are invited. Volunteers get to take up to three plants home every workday.

Directions to the Bayou Parklands Pavilion:

From 288 take the MacGregor Exit. Turn west (toward Hermann Park) onto N. MacGregor. At the first traffic light, turn left (south) onto Almeda. Driving south on Almeda a short distance after passing S. MacGregor, you will see the white sign and drive way for the City of Houston Park & Recreation Maintenance Facility at 6520 Almeda. The driveway after that is into the parking area for the Bayou Parklands Pavilion. Driving south on Almeda from N. MacGregor, if you come to the traffic light at Holcombe, you have past it.
