GCMN Plant Propagation & Proj.  Blazing Star Workday

Thursday, July 12, 2012, 9am-noon

Bayou Parkland Pavilion near 6520 Almeda (between N. MacGregor & Holcombe).  Directions near bottom of email.

Please  note, the location is in Hermann Park, but is NOT in the area around the zoo, golf course, etc.  If you are the first one there, please wait for us.  RSVP to Lan at LSCOMPOSTS@YAHOO.COM or 713-771-1415 for cell phone contact info or just come.

This second  Thursday GCMN workday will involve BOTH native plant propagation and Project Blazing Star planting in the new savannah - your choice. Choice of activities this month:
  • Dividing & potting rescued prairie plants
  • Bump up seedlings
  • Maybe sow seeds. (Let me know, if you are willing to take  home the pots of seeds and take care of them until they germinate and are ready to be bumped up.)
  • Planting prairie plants directly in the ground
Bring  weeding tool, gloves, trowel, pruners, shovel, and money for lunch (optional).  If you do not have gardening tools, they will be provided.  The pavilion provides a roof overhead but is not indoors, so please dress  accordingly.  No   experience necessary; all persons interested in propagating native plants and planting in the Project Blazing Star area are invited.   Volunteers get to take up to three plants home every workday.

Optional:  Going to lunch together at Luby's near the intersection of Almeda and S. MacGregor

Directions to the Bayou Parklands Pavilion:
From 288 take the MacGregor Exit.  Turn west (toward Hermann Park) onto N. MacGregor.  At the first traffic light, turn left (south) onto Almeda.  Driving south on Almeda a short distance after passing S. MacGregor,  you  will see the white sign and drive way for the City of Houston Park & Recreation Maintenance Facility at 6520  Almeda.  The driveway after that is into the parking area for the Bayou Parklands Pavilion.  Driving south on Almeda from N. MacGregor, if you come to the traffic light at Holcombe, you have past it.
